Master the Behringer X32
Your stream/production console: AES50 inputs from the Wing, layers, routing, buses, DCAs, scenes — building a show file that starts from raw+gained splits.

X32’s job in a Wing house
In your room, the Wing is FOH. The X32 is the stream/production brain fed by AES50. Muscle memory still starts with a consistent layout:
- AES50 inputs — map 1:1 (or documented) from Wing channels. Same names on both desks.
- Channels 1–16 / 17–32 — those digital splits (plus any local utilities). Printed input list required.
- Buses — stream, groups, FX, utility feeds. You may not need full monitor-world if Wing owns wedges/IEMs — design for your job.
- DCAs — Drums, Guitars, Vocals, Speaking, Playback for one-hand stream rides.
- Mute groups — Band / Stage / Ambient / “All but Speaking” for clean transitions on the broadcast.
Because Wing already set preamp gain, your first X32 move is often organization + headroom + stream routing — not reinventing gain from zero. Still verify every channel has healthy digital level after AES50 comes up.
Channel strip signal flow (Wing split → X32)
On the X32, remember gain mostly already happened on the Wing. Conceptual order you’ll care about:
- AES50 input source — correct slot / channel from Wing
- Digital trim / polarity / delay as needed (alignment, not a second reckless preamp war)
- Gate (if used for stream cleanliness)
- EQ — your stream tone (Wing’s channel EQ is not on this feed)
- Compressor
- Fader / pan / mute
- Buses / matrix to stream outs → iD14
If a channel is thin/noisy/hot on X32, talk to Wing FOH before you carve the stream to death. Shared gain is a relationship, not a solo sport.
Routing screen essentials (AES50 first)
- Confirm each channel’s input source = AES50 from the Wing (not a leftover local/USB patch from rehearsal).
- Verify AES50 link / clock before soundcheck. No link = silent “inputs” that look patched.
- Assign stream path to physical outs feeding the iD14. Label them STREAM L/R.
- Name channels to match the Wing input list exactly (Pastor HF, Kick, Acoustic DI…).
- Only use local X32 inputs for true local utilities (playback computer, announce mic at stream desk, etc.).
Keep a “GOLD Sunday” scene that assumes Wing AES50 online. Before experiments, save “EXPERIMENT date.” Never overwrite GOLD until it survives a full service with the Wing connected.
Lab — blank scene workout
- Create a new scene. Route AES50 inputs from Wing; name channels to match FOH.
- Build DCAs: Drums, Bass, Guitars, Keys, Vocals, Speaking, Playback.
- Create mute groups: Band, Stage Mics, Ambient/Room, All but Speaking.
- Route a stereo stream path to the physical outs that feed your iD14. Label “STREAM L/R”.
- With Wing online, verify every critical channel meters on X32 when FOH unmutes/sends it.
- Save GOLD scene + export backup to USB.
